Dog owners at the dog run in Madison Square Park say the park community is small, and no one would dare not pick up after their dog there. But it’s also made easier with several dispensers filled with bags to pick up dog poop set up around the run.
Is It OK to Toss Dog Poop Bags Into Other People’s Trash Cans?
I come from a city where there are trash cans at every bus stop and every block on main streets and it’s easy and convenient to toss bagged dog poop. I recently moved to a more suburban but still metropolitan city where there are trash cans at every other bus stop and no public cans at intersections. When walking my dogs, I will occasionally throw bagged poop into other people’s curbside garbage canisters when it’s trash day and I see their bin hasn’t been emptied yet.
Keeping Dog Poop out of my Trash Can
I live near a park. Inevitably when I roll my trash can in, someone has already deposited a bag of dog poop. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if the can were full and about to be emptied. But I don’t want that in my can for a week. And at the bottom there is risk the bag could puncture and release poop onto my can. Maybe some folks don’t care. It’s a trash can. But I do. I hate that smell and it just grosses me out. Any tips to prevent others from depositing their dog poop there? I’ve tried just dumping it back out into the street hoping someone would take the hint but so far no luck.

It’s Tuesday afternoon at 6:00 pm. My tiny garbage can has been sitting out on the curb empty for just over 24 hours. During that span three dog owners thought my open can was theirs to use and deposited their dog waste in it. It isn’t. Should I have brought my can in earlier?
